Steven D. Smith has been a hiking enthusiast for over 30 years. He has served as the editor or co-editor of both the AMC White Mountain Guide and the AMC Southern New Hampshire Trail Guide for several editions. His connections to the hiking community abound, as a trail adopter, a search-and-rescue volunteer, and member of the AMC Four Thousand Footer Committee. He lives in Lincoln, NH.

Review: I have only skimmed the book so far, and it seems useful and thorough... but my biggest disappointment is with the pull-out paper map, which does not have all of the trails covered in the book. The map is primarily focused on Mt Monadnock, Cardigan, and Sunapee -- all trail systems that do NOT lack easily-obtained maps. The map does cover Belknap, which is useful, but I had wanted paper maps for Pisgah and Wapack, which are covered in the book. It's very hard to piece together route from the book descriptions without a map, and I still have no map to take with me on my hikes/runs.
